Dr. Sloan was born in New Jersey, and has lived throughout the western United States. He is a former mountaineering instructor, and was a co-founder of a summer camp for children with cancer [Camp Wapiyapi]. He has climbed throughout the Rocky Mountains, and the Andes of Peru and Bolivia. In his spare time, he runs triathlons - The Nation's Triathlon in Washington, DC; and the London Triathlon. Throughout his career, Dr. Sloan has done extensive research and published on the topics of asthma, the modulation of spinal cord pain transmission, and minimally invasive techniques used to address degenerative disc disease.
